Started to walk at 7 am with Bertrand. I walked soon away from him. The sun disappeared and I entered a light fog. No difficult ascents, I walked fast. After a while I entered a nice forest and didn’t stop until soon after 10 am in a small village where someone had opened a simple cafe. I drank a coffee and ordered a sandwich for lunch later.
Walked another hour and a half and ate the sandwich. Took a little break before Barcelone de Gers and at 1 pm I arrived in Aire. Checked in at the Hotel du Nord. Showered and did my laudry. It has never been so easy to walk 30km. Nice.
Later came Julien and Gaël with Inès, a nice Spanish woman. I offered them a beer, then I went back to the hostel to rest.
Went then and sat by the river. People came with picnic baskets. Then I ate a steak frites. Delicious. At the restaurant I discovered that I had lost my passport and my diary. Luckily I found them on the bench where I was sitting by the river.
It was warm.
Nothing seems to have happened at Hotel du Nord since the 50s. Nice. I’m alone in the dorm. Another pilgrim, Jean-Louis, has taken a room of his own. There is a couple too. They do not mix with others.
Wonder if Bertrand has come to Aire. Otherwise I will miss him.
