Up half past six. The breakfast is a joke. The manager is a little dictator. He tries to educate people and everybody is getting mad at him. He doesn’t notice. He is the one who came up with the “mandatory voluntary contribution” in Markina-Xemein, he told me.
I started to walk before 7:30. Overcast, dark and the same cold wind. Boring surroundings until Portugalete where you take the “flying bus”, a hanging “bridge” over the river. And on the other side, you don’t have to get up the ascent: there are tavelators! Then it was a bicycle- and footpath almost all the way. A total of 25 km of asphalt, a bit tough for the feet.
Took a sandwich on the way. Arrived at 2 pm. There I met the Austrian man and the Spanish woman I met earlyer. Cool couple. She is 78. The German couple I met in Geteira is also here. Otherwise, it seems that many ended up in Bilbao, or stayed in Portugalete.
I patched up a German woman who has got big blisters on her feet. She had to finish the stage in a taxi.
