San Sebastian

Off at half past eight. A little rain, just to disturb me. I immediately noticed that I was not alone, a lot of people were on their way, mostly with light package. It went gently uphill up to the Guadeloupe church, but then, to get to the Jaizkibel path, it went brutally up. I only remember one ascent, after Cômes, which was almost as difficult. Had the weather been nice, it would have been breathtaking, what a view.

Had lunch in Pasai Donibane. Nice place. Then there were a couple more steep hills, especially the first, a long, difficult staircase.

Arrived in San Sebastian around a quarter past three. Here I did something stupid, I went to the other side of town after seeing a sign for a shelter for pilgrims on the map. There was no shelter, but a hostel that was full. And everything in town was full according to the manager, because it is a long weekend in connection with the first of May.

It felt too far to walk back. Didn’t even think I could take a bus. It started to rain, it wasn’t even 10 degrees warm. I was thinking to walk further, but found a hotel just before leaving town. I got the room cheaper.

Took a bus into town. Ate a crappy lasagna for €10.
